A Parade on The Parade, Norwood

The sun was out and people were flocking to The Parade for one of the most important Adelaide Fashion Festival events. Now in its sixth year, The Parades on The Parade has reached over 7000 attendees, making it a fun family day for all.

We had the pleasure of speaking to Cristina Tridente, the Coordinators of the Adelaide Fashion Festival, who has been apart of this event for 3 years. Cristina described her favorite look this season as pastels- she loves to be able flaunt bold colours and really experiment with her style. Anything high-waisted is also right up her ally, as she is a sucker for 50's silhouettes. Accessory-wise, Cristina is truly on trend, sporting fluro and PVC pieces. What really struck us about Cristina was her confidence in her own style, wearing whatever makes her feel comfortable and pulling it off! She selects pieces that catch her eye, and in turn, she creates a unique look that is personalised to her taste. Trends are great, but having a good eye for fashion is better! So be sure to try and spot Cristina throughout the Adelaide Fashion Festival.

Cristina believes that the Adelaide Fashion Festival is a great way to get everyone involved and on Sunday the 20th of October, the Norwood parades did just that. Alice in Wonderland was the theme this year which involved high fashion, high tea and a 'wonderland' of market stalls. Cristina mentioned that one of the main focuses of the Adelaide Fashion Festival is to support local retailers.

"This year we have encouraged our food retailers to have their own stalls as well," she said.

After speaking with Cristina we bumped into our favorite Adelaide fashionista, Jennifer Centenera - the mastermind behind the Gilles St Market. She had organised the many stalls that lined the street. She wanted to bring a little Gilles St Market magic to Norwood.

We perused what was on offer at the stalls and then we were ushered backstage to see the models busily getting runway ready - hair, makeup and an outfit change. The girls and guys from Finesse were set to take the stage.

The first parade of the day showcased fashions from brands on The Parade, such as Witchery, Country Road, Portmans, Lorna Jane and Flower Clothing. Some lucky VIP onlookers enjoyed high tea with front row seats under the shade of large umbrellas - a luxury on a hot and sunny Sunday. The trends gracing the catwalk mirrored the summery weather with pops of vibrant colour, soft, flowing fabrics and energetic prints. Everyone in the crowd was mesmerized.

After a quick cool drink and another glimpse backstage at the upcoming outfits, the second parade began, this time featuring exclusive fashions to The Parade from Wild Child Style Lab, Denim & Cloth, The Birdcage and many more. The Cameo 'We Are Young' dress worn by the face of the Adelaide Fashion Festival, Lucy Bayet, was a Boston & Chase favourite. As was Cameo's 'Sapphire' silver skirt.

Take a look at our time at AFF's Norwood Place Parades. There are many Spring/Summer trends to be absorbed - some of Adelaide's finest labels on show.
